I'm not looking for recs, I'm not looking for notoriety, I just want someone to read this. I've been waxing political on my Facebook page for over a year leading up to this election and I've been hopelessly disappointed by the lack of engagement I've received.
Given that, I feel that this comment I made on one of my own posts is something that people on this site would like, appreciate, and maybe even share. I don't pretend to be a fantastic writer/orator and I've gotten to the point that I don't think I ever will be because no matter how much passion or eloquence I attempt to inject into what I write, no one seems to care. So fuck it all, I just hope you all enjoy this....
To be perfectly honest, Obama's still my guy. I'm a Democrat - through and through. That doesn't mean that my eyes are closed and it certainly doesn't mean that I'm a shameless political hack. I have my problems with Dems too. It's just that the problem I have with Dems is that I'm usually further to the left than they are. Also that they continue to play the childish games that the media insists that they play.
It's just that I pay closer attention to the ins and outs, the day-to-day of the whole affair than most people do. I'm a junkie, and I can't get enough information. I understand and enjoy not just the process, but the policy that drives the process. My ears are tuned to hear hypocrisy, lies and misinformation. Given that, when I hear the truth, it stands out just as clearly. I know exactly what I believe and I act on it (at least I vote accordingly). I'm a socialist nut-job. I believe that workers make a company function, not the manager. I believe that as the most powerful, most prosperous nation in the history of the world, there is no excuse for the fact that people in America can't see a doctor, or go to college, or provide meals for their family, or keep a roof over their head, because they don't have the money.
I'm a Democrat because Democrats believe not in the hand-out, but the hand up. I reject the idea that everyone is on their own, and I reject the idea that anyone made everything they have completely on their own. I believe in the social compact. I believe in the American experiment; and to me the American experiment means socialized capitalism.
